Learning Objective 1 After completing this section, students should be able to describe the OSI Session Layer, and what it is used for.

The Session Layer manages connection between the hosts applications. This layer is responsible for establishing, coordinating, and terminating data exchanges. Very few applications use this layer since it is an enhanced version of the Transport Layer. For instance, the Internet suite does not support this layer.
